News emerging from different platforms, reported a coup in Congo Brazzaville last night, but the news has been debunked by the country’s Minister of Communications and Media, Thierry Moungalla.
79 year old President, Denis Sassou Nguesso who has been in power for 39 years is currently in Dakar, Senegal after he aborted a planned trip to the US, following this viral news.
Report in some quarters say, he is in Senegal to discuss with the military over the coup, while others say internet service has been cut off in the country, as they say that is a sign that a coup took place in the country last night.
President Denis Sassou has been in power since 1997, and Congo borders the Central African Republic, where there is a strong Russian presence.
If the reports of coup in the country is true, Congo will be the third former French colony to experience a coup this year, after the likes of Niger & Gabon.
