Residents at Oluwaseyi street in Oworoshoki area of Lagos state have been alleged to have been forced to leave their apartment, following the demolition that took place in the area.
Eye witness account states that, some masked men, accompanied by the police were seen burning and demolishing houses.
According to them, there was no prior notice before the demolition, and the people of the area who are now homeless, have taken refuge in a nearby churches and uncompleted building.
This week, a vacation letter was seen on social media, where it was dated July 18, 2023, as it addressed residents on Lekan Oyebade Street to vacate the area.
The reason for the demolition, as it was given in the letter, is due to the illegal conversion of the wetland into habitation, squatters on encroached wetland, absence of toilet facilities, amongst other reasons.
The residents were not allowed to remove some of their belongings and few other properties that could still be salvaged.
