Following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s invitation to the 63rd Annual General Conference of the association, that was held in Abuja during the weekend, NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau was asked why a President whose legitimacy is challenged in court was invited to the presentation of the communique.
The President of the Nigerian Bar Association gave an explanation, according to the tenets of the law guiding the constitution of the country, “There is a provision of the Evidence Act which says that if a declaration is made by a public officer, that declaration is deemed to be right and that everything is needed to be done for that thing to happen has been done. There is no where you will find in any law that says because an election is being challenged, the person whose election is being challenged is holding an illegal or unconstitutional office. That is wrong.”

This explanation from Yakubu Maikyau have drawn alot of outcry from few Nigerians, who feel the court is trying to pervert justice by declaring illegitimacy, despite the several evidences presented in court.
Today marks 99 days in office for President Tinubu, and the election tribunal will give a judgement on Wednesday, following the petition served before the court by Labour party and H.E Peter Gregory Obi.
