Dr. Maryam Shetty was removed from the ministerial nominee list, on her way to the House of Assembly for screening, and the announcement was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, during the plenary.
She was replaced by Mairiga Mahmud, the new ministerial nominee from Kano, who served as the state commissioner for higher education under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
Maryam Shettima Ibrahim, popularly known as Maryam Shetty, got mixed reactions from her people in Kano, after citing the fact that she is unmarried, and has a high presence on social media, especially Tiktok, as they say she is unfit to be a minister.
This decision makes it eight women and 40 men, nominated for ministerial appointment by President Tinubu, so far.
Maryam Shetty is the granddaughter to the late Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero, and a niece to the current Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, and the Emir of Bichi Nasir Ado Bayero.
The well known medical practitioner worked briefly with Dala Orthopedic and Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospitals in Kano, before she went to London to further her education.
