The Super Falcons of Nigeria are out of the ongoing FIFA Women World Cup, currently taking center stage in Australia and New Zealand, after the Lioness of England won on penalties by 4 – 2, following a 0 – 0 scoreline in 120 minutes.
The falcons had a decent game all through ,where they showed strength and resilience, against their European counterpart, but the outcome of the game had to be decided by penalties.
The defending European champions had Lauren James was sent off in the second half, following a brash foul on Michelle Alozie in the 86th minute of the game.
The Super Falcons, who are nine-time African champions have received lots of praise, on social media, despite the loss, from Nigerian fans, for their solid performance.
England have qualified for the knockout stage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the sixth time in their history, as they progress to the quarter finals of the mundial.
The Lionesses were top of their group (Group D), while Nigeria were second in Group B.
